And The Results Are In... Part 5

Hey everyone! It's me again, back from another week of absurity in Palmerston North. Mid-terms are over, and the nervousness of how well you went in said mid-terms has passed, so I guess I should reveal all on how they all went, as I'm sure my supportive family would like to know. It's not all bad news you know!

But before we get into the results, some local headlines.

You may or may not be clued into the fact that I am going to 'attempt' to redesign the campus radio station's website. Not that the previous designer did anything wrong, he did a real good job but the station manager just wanted a few snazzy features that were easily editable, and for it to be at a new URL. In my mind it seems like no major problem in theory, but half of this sounds new to me so it'll be a learning experience as well. So keep reading and you'll hear more from the $1.20 Design subsidary in the near future.

Our hall and a few others went out to the local Aquatic Centre on Friday night, to be honest I thought there'd be a lot more people coming, but in summary it was a good night. A good morning actually; I got back at 1 a.m. and didn't get to sleep until 2 hours later. It was the first time I'd experienced a sauna, too. I never realised that sitting in a dry room at 40+ degrees (that's 100+ Farenheit) was considered relaxing. And it was. But the whole outing made me realise how relatively out of shape I was. But I am losing weight. Enough said.

Now, on to the results.

Firstly, Physics. A lot of the students in both my paper and the life science paper found their respective exams quite hard (I may have mentioned that already). This was reflected with the average result for the life science Physics paper being only 48%. Although this isn't the same average as my paper, I understand there was a numerous amount that didn't reach the magic 50% mark. My mark? 78%. Quite resonable, would've liked it to be at least 80, but with my relative standing in the class I think I'll manage. in terms of the online progress tests and labs, the tests can prove to be quite taxing, especially when they ask you to rearrange two formulas to solve for a particular variable. And then expect you to know how to do it with a few vague hints. Look, sorry, but pure mathematics was not my forte in college, so I'll just say I'm landing in the high 90's and we'll move on. The Physics labs are very tedious, and there have been a few moments when you realise you've written down a measurement incorrectly or done a mis-calculation and need to take several steps back. I haven't ever run out of time yet, but doing 3-4 experiments in 3 hours can play on your nerves a little. But all the labs so far have been perfect scores, so I'm not complaining. Perhaps it's the slight sense of humor in the discussion sections. Who knows.

Next up we have Linear Mathematics. There's definitely a spread of knowledge across the class, as I recall the scores from the previous tests ranged from absolute maximum to bare minimum. As for me, I screwed up on one of the questions, but so far on all tests I've nestled myself in the top quartile of the class. We had another test last Friday, and to be honest I feel good about this one; my friend Steve and I did a lot of revising online for it, and none of the questions looked foreign, so that's a really good thing or a really bad thing. But hopefully I'll get my results either Monday or Tuesday.

Next we have Japanese. Now it's a lttle hard to tell how well I stack up against the rest of class since it's an extramural course, but in short I scored 4/5 on the speaking assignment before the semester break, and it also said I need to work on grammatical accuracy. But I am happy with the result overall, and at least I can see where I went wrong and fix things accordingly.

Finally, the best bit - I had the top mark for the Statistics mid-term.
But it was a multichoice test.
But it was the highest mark by 2 points.
But it was out of twenty.

No further explanation necessary, apart from that I was studying Statistics non-stop over the holidays.

Right, so that's me for now. See you Wednesday!

The Weekend Watch + Triple Bonus
As an added bonus since I forgot that I hadn't included anything at the end of the previous post, you're getting 4, count them, 4 forms of content at the end of this one.

Number 1: This week's comic - Day 14 Comic #6, entitled "Caller". To sum it up some creepy guy's efforts get foiled with common sense. Enjoy.

Number 2: A big thank you goes out to Deviant "Bad Blood" who created the icon set featuring emoticons such as the one found at the start of this post, plus the one I am currently using as my Skype picture. It would be mean not to supply a link to anyone that's interested, so you can pick up the two sets here and here.

Number 3: The Mid-Week Website that should've been: Angry Alien Productions - If you ever want to see a movie acted out in 30 seconds by bunnies, you're in the right place. Click here.

Number 4: This week's video features pervert bubbles. Umm... just watch the video.

Also like that you have left the campus for some social integration.
