In this post: I move back into university, my role as a residential advisor, and more of the internet in bite-sized pieces.
So basically with the whole moving situation I was without internet for quite a while (wow, how did I get through it?), but now that's over and a fresh batch of first-years are slowly re-populating the various halls of residence around the campus.
This year I'm an RA (residential advisor) situated in Tawa Hall, one of the newer halls and also the most expensive (not by much, mind... but still great for students). It's not alcohol-free like McHardy last year, but it still houses around 50 and is rather conveniently located near the bus stop, concourse, and the majority of my lecture locations.
For those residents about to move in (and my guess is perhaps they haven't heard of this blog) my RA partner (Sarah) and I have decided that this year the Tawa-ians will be known as the Titans! I may *cough cough* have edited the logo from another logo I found on the internet... so I apologise in advance for that.
But for those that don't know... all the halls come up with a team name and banner primarily for Crazy Sports day at the start of the year.
Actually painting the banner was an interesting ordeal in itself...
Well for starters both, that's right, both OHPs were broken, meaning after a creative attempt at darkening the room and using a LED torch to project a transparency image on a large sheet of canvas material, Sarah and I decided to just freehand the design onto the banner. And it actually turned out really good! Early on I made the mistake of painting the banner from the outside in as opposed to vice-versa, meaning that over the next 24 hours of banner painting we were both manoeuvring our hands and feet to reach different spots of the banner like a bizarre version of Twister.
Actually us RAs have been here for around two weeks now, the first week of which we were away on a camp learning (or in the dozen returners' cases, re-learning) the various policies we keep in check. And as per most team-building camps, I learnt something... if something with structure falls into chaos, I will start to panic and micro-manage everything. True story.
Ultimate Frisbee and suggestive talent show acts aside, it was good fun, and we all returned physically, mentally, and possibly emotionally exhausted. The majority of residents will be arriving this Wednesday, for a slightly-scaled-down-because-I-think-they-reduced-funding version of the Let's Get Going programme, designed to get all first-years acquainted with the ins and outs of university.
And now this
Well over the last week I've found a few videos for you to enjoy... check these out!
First up, has anyone seen The Bourne Ultimatum? Well, I haven't... but how about a version starring the guy from Where's Wally/Where's Waldo? What was his name again?...
Strangely last year a lot of residents were talking about the TV show Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and even though that show ended back in the 90s, people still take an interest. Here's a remix of sounds from the show that fetched multiple millions of views on YouTube.
That's it from me this week... with a bit of luck I'll get back to making this a regular thing.
As per usual subscribe to the RSS feed (link at the top of the page), share the post, share the website link, and share that slice of cake you greedy person, you can't eat that much cake...
