Ever have those days when something great happens, then something bad/unpleasant happens, then for some reason it just keeps alternating during the day? It's hard to decide on a verdict about whether the day was a success or not, so today (June 24) I decided to keep score. Let's see how the day played out.
Midnight. I was not on the computer, to most people's surprise, as a matter of pact I had just finished playing on my PSP and was about to get to sleep, since I needed to get up early if I was going to visit school that morning.
To my surprise I managed to wake up at 4 in the morning, which I believe is my personal best [1 point to me]. Although I had thoughts about what effect that would take when I actually got out of bed in a few hours, I attempted to get back to sleep, but to no avail. I guess it was going to be a long day.
I got out of bed at 6, and after having breakfast, brushing my teeth, getting changed, and all the usual morning malarkey it was 6:30. So with some time to spare before I left to catch the train I went on the computer for an hour [1 point to me].
At 7:45 we left to catch the train. I didn't miss the train; which isn't really an acheivement around here since most of the time they run 5 minutes late anyway. However upon boarding I noticed that there were no college students onboard. I was going to reach for my PDA to check online if there were any special events I had forgotten about, but it turns out I had left it at home [1 point to the world]. So I decided to text my sister, who still attends college, asking if they had shifted the usual, Wednesday late start to Thursdays. "Yuppie doo daa" was the reply [1 point to the world]. So I found myself on a train that was at least 1 hour earlier than desired. but whatever got me there I guess.
I reached the final stop at about 8:45, and made my way over to the shopping centre so that I could drop off my broken watch, which hd stopped for the second time within a year of the battery being replaced. But the mall was shut until 9, leaving me to aimlessly mill around the neighbouring supermarket for 15 minutes before dropping off the watch.
Now, the next bus wasn't until 9:30, however college didn't start until 10:20. So I decided to ditch the bus and instead take the inland walkway towards college to pass the time. Walking 1 hour non-stop does the heart good [1 point to me]. I even had time to detour to the beach and take a couple of photos of Kapiti Island before going in.
But revisiting school (and due to the date choice, there was even a slice of birthday cake available [1 point to me]) was a nice experience; I got to have a quick chat to most of my past teachers, because it's nice to catch up and talk about University in person.
That took me thorugh until 3:30, when I walked home with my sister. I could only stay at home for a couple of hours due to prior arrangements, but again we taked about University and the holidays; the usual sort of thing.
At 5 we managed to talk about the possibility of a job during the next semester at a tutoring institute in Palmerston North. And due to the helpful spontaneous nature of Jennie, I got convinced to call up right then and there asking for a job. And now I have a job 'interview' on Tuesday [1 point to me, and also to Jennie].
At 5:30 I got a ride to the station to get back home, but not before attempting to take a big gulp of water and splurting it out all over my pants since it all went down the windpipe [1 point to the world]. I reached the station just a little too late, so I got the next train and got back home at 7.
Next we had to pick up a new bar fridge for my Grandma in town, so we did, and brought it straight home. Although I may have hurt my leg carrying it up the stairs [1 point to the world], we got the box up with no material damage, settling in for a nice tea of Shepherd's pie. Plus I got to have an extra bit since I was still hungry [1 pont to me].
It's now 9:00 at night, and with 3 hours of time remaining in the day, the score is currently 6-4; I lead by two. But let's hope nothing changes in that time.
It's today now, and in post-game commentary I stayed ahead with 7-5. So it was a good day after all.
But for now, I'm taking a break and hope to be back just before the second semester starts in early July. So for the school kids who still have a week to go - good luck with that and be sure to know that you'll get holidays like these in a few years or so. But enjoy the young days while you can.
