It's been 82 days since I first got here, and in conjunction to the first set of happenings-to-me that have already occured, it seems like I haven't learnt everything socially yet, since I'm still making mistakes. Lets continue from where we left off.
And just quickly, we have exams coming up soon, but that doesn't mean we have tests and assignments in the way! I've recently got back my Test 2 Results for Statistics, I scored 95% (19/20).
And in hallway news, pranks were pulled today as someone's room contents got put in the hallway. A group of boys in my hallway took a bed, lamp, posters and many other things and placed them in the hallway to make it seem like a bedroom. Pictures can be found on Facebook, keyword "Gonzo Hall".
In sports, Colombo's multiple week losing streak continues again as we lose to Rotary Hall. To make it worse, it honestly didn't seem like the other team was trying. And we didn't even win a single set...
And now, onto the lessons learned.
Rule 6 - Don't forget your books.
You'd think this was a no-brainer, but as you'll soon find out leaving the room in a rush can be quite a hinderance. Luckily my room is about 3 minutes away if you walk quickly, and the lecture at the time had a tendancy to turn up slightly late.
Rule 7 - Remember to tie swimming togs tight.
No further explanation necessary.
Rule 8 - However weird things get on campus, you're not dreaming.
A bizarre title I know, but how else can I describe this one? There have been at least two occasions where it just seems like I'm seeing everything wrong, one of which you'll hear about later. But apparently strange happenings around here are the norm, so take them for granted.
Rule 9 - Never trust yourself to wake up without an alarm.
Another self-explanatory rule. Truth is I'm still trying to learn this one; there have been times when I just couldn't be stuffed getting out of bed when the alarm goes off, mainly down to the relative temperature between the room and the bed. But it costs you - First to go is the chance to have a shower early, wake up later and you miss out on breakfast, even later and you really have to motor to class and hope you have the right equipment (see Rule 6). Anything as extreme as this and your brain is still trying to wake up (bringing in Rule 8, and the following rule).
Rule 10 - Check your timetable, even if you're '100% sure'.
Now for the big one - there was this one morning when I was late to get up, so I quickly got changed and downed a museli bar, and headed off for class. It was a Tuesday, so I knew I had Linear Maths, and so I went into the classroom that I would go into if it was a Wednesday. There was even a group of people that I was sure didn't look familiar, mind you I never paid a lot of attention to who was sitting in most of my classes. But anyway, I sit down and get my books out. Then I hear the people behind discuss stuff I hadn't even thought about, and by know I'm still feeling a little confused from waking up early, so I ask what the class is. And it turned out I was in an Economics class. And it wasn't even a first year one. It had to happen at some stage anyway. At least the class hadn't started.
Rule 11 - Don't let your friends into the same room as your washing on a drying rack.
Or more specifically, your socks and underpants on a drying rack. Umm... yeah.
Rule 12 - Don't leave a tissue in your clothes' pockets.
Back during my brief stint of a cold, I carried a few tissues in my pockets just in case, and apparently I left them in there when I went to do my washing. But after putting them in the dryer the bits just brushed off anyway.
So that's my 'happenings' over the last couple of months or so, no doubt we'll expect more next semester, no?
The Weekend Mid-Week Watch
Ok, I want to link this one before I forget; continuing on with Sunday's British comedy theme, here's a Catherine Tate skit about a poorly-skilled translator.
