The Year's Close

So it's already been a year since I was desperately trying to wrap up the past 10 years before midnight ticked over. Luckily I am gifted with an extra 24 hours to do so this time. Hooray for pre-posting!

I had enough problems just picking a title, actually... making a joke like "101 reasons to..." or "X 101" just didn't have a good enough ring, and even combining them all into "101 Bad Title Ideas For Your 101st Blog Post, 101" seemed like overkill.

It's customary for any post like this to begin with, "What a year it's been", or words to that effect.

But from there, I'm at a loss. So here's what happened.

After everyone forgetting the autotune fad of '09, we progressed into 2010 with... well, not much happening on my part. Focus was instead shoved to Haiti with their big, supergroup single-inducing earthquake.

In February, both my University years and the Vancouver Olympics began. We soon learnt that it was in fact possible for me to forget equipment to class at the age of 18.

Quickly followed by the 50th post special, simply going back over everyone I'd mentioned over the time since I started in September (by the way, that guy that worked with me at Harvey Norman... Andrew Holmes. He's back again for these holidays too!).

Then the bizarrely-named Icelandic volcano erupted, causing no problems in New Zealand, except possibly me trying to quietly and un-boastfully release bits of my novel project. Holiday makers in Europe at the time had a few more important things than this blog to focus on.

May marked another Mother's Day.

And in June, the 10th highest-selling video game franchise of all time (Wikipedia estimate, as of current) celebrated its 19th anniversary. And at the same time you read how the world's fastest, bluest hedgehog became my favourite. Sure nineteen's an uneven number, but just wait until next year!

In July flooding in Pakistan caused me to dislike public transportation.

In August I matched ages with other first-year students at university (if only for a month or two). And the big swine flu pandemic was over, apparently.

In September I got scared staying out in the city past 6 and got an idea that was already thought of (thinking about a Facebook app actually...).

Then in October my posting schedule kinda got, *ahem* a bit of turbulence. We all know why. But this is me, trying to pick it up again in the new year. Sticking to weekly for now...

Elsewhere we had the Chilean miners, the Greymouth miners, and somewhere earlier in the year I forgot to mention Prince William visiting Kapiti. So... yeah. That's 2010.

Final bits for the year: I'm currently getting ready to film my first ever "Last Year's Awards". Next year's last year's categories are:

  • Best new way to play sports
  • The "I don't need that" award
  • The "We saw it coming" award
  • Groundhog Day award for Deja vu
  • Biggest G-Rated Scandal
  • Lady GaGa award for Extreme Behaviour
  • Michael Jackson Memorial award for Airplay Absorbtion
  • Internet Person of the Year
Bet you can already guess who some of the winners are, huh? No? Well, best wait till next year to find out who takes what, in another vlog episode! Because the first one was so successful... 9 views, sheesh...

And speaking of popular videos...

The most anticipated video mash-up of the year is this week's video - Simply a remix of this year's top 25 songs as calculated by Billboard in the States.

So that's me for 2KX. That's 2010, by the way... that never caught on, actually...

*ahem* But I hope to be back next year!
