I'm back. Back to campus. Back where the rain is unannounced but welcomed. Back where no-one cares that you're wearing shorts. Back where noodles are a commodity. Back where...
So you get the picture. Apologies for my handful of regular viewers for missing the last few weeks, our family had come down with a novovirus and 5 out of 7 (or five sevenths) of our family got struck pretty hard on Sunday morning. In fact the whole post could even be taken as an apology letter.
So let's see, it's been... twelve? Yeah, twelve. Twelve days since I've been back on campus, and in that time my work ethic required me to work on two assignments (that I had extended due to sickness; the university system is way less stringent than NCEA on the matter) to the point that my body clock got shot multiple times, causing me to think I was in London. Yes, London. That bad. Speaking of...
My Thoughts On... The Royal Wedding
Now let's rewind a week or so. I'd like to talk about the Royal Wedding briefly. And I hear a few groans in the audience, there.
Yes, the Royal Wedding (and I'm not even sure if I should be capitalising that) came and went televised at one of the worst possible times on national broadcast, and unfortunately for some that had never watched a royal wedding, or any wedding, didn't realise it was going to be so... monotonous?
We actually ended up playing a game crossed between "Name-what-that-hat-looks-like" and "Name-the-celebrity-lookalike". Even spotting people in the audience yawning and the like.
Of course the paparazzi-esque media (i.e. Entertainment Tonight and E! which I... uh, do not... watch...) decided to go full bore on the whole "OMG they kissed twice that never happened LOL" and "ROFL the ring didn't fit on the first try LMAO!". They didn't actually say that. Instead they bait you the entire course of the show with someone commenting on the backstory, filled in with someone talking about what people were wearing and the remaining 80% were commericals and people saying "and that's coming up next... but first,..."
I found it rather hilarious when I watched it live and some commentator in the studio was taking about the wedding gown as Lady Catherine got out of the car and was like, "...and I can confirm that the dress is made by [insert name of designer here]", like it was some breaking news. I could just imagine that actually...
"...live at the White House where President Obama is approaching the press for a statement."
"My fellow Americans. Today,..."
"And we'll be right back to that live press conference, right now we have breaking news developing from Buckhingham Palace and we cross there live to our Europe correspondant John Public. John?"
"Yes, thank you Judy. We can now confirm that the dress worn by Lady Catherine is by..."
or even,
"Yo Taylor, imma let you finish, but Lady Catherine's wearing a dress by..."
...but we can imagine.
Then I got sick, but we can move past that.
Due to said sickness, I was absolutely flat that Sunday, two Sundays ago.
After waiting the recommended 48 hours after symptoms subsided, I got a bus back (discounted for students!) to Palmeston North which arrived around 5:30 that evening.
Unfortunately the northbound long-distance bus stop isn't located anywhere near my hall. So I had my 3 bags (with a combined weight of around 25Kg) and myself trekking the kilometer to my room. Not that that was a problem.
No, what was rather interesting was that 5:30 is about the time that all the students are leaving campus for home. And then you have a spot of amusement as you see some guy wearing a hoodie and shorts manipulating three pieces of luggage along the sidewalk. Embarrassing? No. Luckily, at university, no one cares.
I had also failed to mentioned a few weeks back that while in New Plymouth our family took part in something called a dam drop, in which using plastic toboggans we slid down a eight-meter-or-more-ish high disused concrete dam. Pics should be inserted around here to illustrate what I'm talking about.
Now, every student should have attempted this at least once: going all night doing an assignment. And unfortunately I was that far behind last Thursday evening (due to an unfortunate backup due to sickness) and caused myself to work around 11 hours nonstop to finish a programming assignment practically from scratch. I'd love to say that never happened again, but I think I may have got carried away with my maths last night.
I can't believe I still have more to say! Yikes, you miss one week and everything seems to happen at once...
I'm gonna have to continue this tomorrow. So yeah, "To Be Continued"...
Up Next: Paintball, website drama, more assignments, birthdays, censorship, the weekly picks and more! But first...
