Hey, Look at This!

If you're a budding marketer, get a note pad ready to take a few notes.

It's been another week in sunny (Ha!) Palmerston North. And for once it's been slightly interesting.

Anyway, on Friday afternoon I was walking to my Discrete Mathematics lecture when I came across two Domino's Pizza workers.
"Do you want some free pizza?" One asked, offering the box.
Now as a univeristy student, putting free in front of anything sparks immediate interest, so without hesitation I accepted, asking,
"Did someone forget to pick it up or something?"
"No, it's just a promotion." She replied.
Smiling, I ripped off a slice and went on my way.
Hawaiian. Oo-er. Never been a fan of pineapple on pizzas...
Nevertheless I enjoyed it, as I hadn't really had that much to eat for lunch before, just a handful of bulk-bin scroggin.
Reaching the lecture block, I suddenly realised - university students are the best people to market to.
In previous years, students had to go with whatever their caregivers bought at whatever place they bought it at. Now, of course, they've moved away and are free to make their own choices. So what an opportunity to advertise.
We have a National Bank branch on campus for pete's sake. And take Market Day back on the Friday of Let's Get Going week. Free stuff central.
Forgive me for over analysing, but I seriously think it's true.

Last night our hall was specially chosen to recieve the prize of the fire alarm being set off at four in the morning. Such is life.
Now, keeping in mind the fire wardens hadn't recived training yet, all the residents got out of the hall with minimal hassle.
In my typical morning bumbling nature, it took me sevral trips across the room to get out of the building. It was a case of:
"Whoops, forgot my warden vest!"
"Whoops, forgot my shoes!"
"Whoops, forgot to knock on doors!"
"Whoops, forgot my phone!"
After everyone had assembled on the oval outside, the fire service was called. Now at this stage I wasn't sure if this was a drill or not, but we were instructed at RA training to call 111 anyway.
"Hello, 111, Police, Fire or Ambulance?"
"Hi I'm at McHardy Hall on Turitea campus at Massey Univer-"
"Do you need me to connect you to Police, Fire or Ambulance?"
Damn. Another mistake.
"Fire, please..."
Long story short, three fire engines worth of fire fighters turned up to battle a broken smoke detector.

And now, it's time for some...

Secret Statistics
This week the counter raises to 3.5, and to tell you why, here's a 'corrupted' incident report (because otherwise the answer would be too obvious).

BOSSIER
Beurau of Secret Statistics Incidental Event Report

Event ID: 00001-003
Time: 12:57 PM Local
Date: 28-02-11
Location: Concourse, Massey University Turitea Campus, Palmerston North
Increment: +0.5
Incident Details: Subject was walking past the pharmacy in direction of Sir Geoffrey Peren building. Was wearing zt.jdxnkfg and fdcxnldxoszxyot incremented fully because it was not actual.hzxlykexnkfgimjxgxludlydghat looked similar.

By the way, that jumble of letters isn't random. It is possible to uncorrupt the report. The key is not to get bored under all the randomness.

Questions or answers on any of the Secret Statistics clues can be made in the comments. Good luck with thixsdd,[s clue.

The Last Word
Due to me running out of internet, I have no video to recommend. Instead you can look at this picture of me and some friends playing a card game called "Spoons".

And lastly, this weeks recommended website. Marketed at all those mother types, have you ever been confused by all those funny classification ratings on movies, games, websites and TV shows in terms on whether it was suitable for say, a seven year old. You are not alone, apparently. Commonsense Media is a review website for parents (and kids), giving you guidance into what exactly is in the latest blockbuster in cinemas.

By the way, if this post comes out a bit funny when initally posted, it's the fact I had to use an older version of the Blogger editor to get this post published. Stupid bandwidth limits...

Hey man,

Cool blog. I really like it. How do you come up with the things you say?

Pyro.

Hey there Pyro, thanks for your comment. Glad you're enjoying the blog.
It's a little hard to describe the process... usually midway through the week I get some sort of idea in my head and start mumbling out loud about it as if I was a host of a TV series or something. Then it gets tranferred into writing. Sounds crazy, I know.

So true about the free stuff! It was the first thing I thought when they started bringing commercial icecreams and other stuff we probably wouldn't be able to afford until well after graduation when we actually get better jobs... After all, us students are apparently the next big earners... *eye roll*
