Yo Ho Ho (A Blogger's Life for Me)

Well well well, Facebook. What a little situation we have here...

I'll be frank, I never wanted to start a Facebook account back in last August. The thought of being one of the few (albeit mocked-behind-the-back) citizens of this earth that didn't sell out to the social network charm was a rather warming one. The time apparently saved from checking status updates was used to check... well, in my case, YouTube channels. Which I guess was worse on my bandwidth.

That was last year.

To be blunt it's just lost its lustre. And checking the calendar it's been... well, look at that - almost 200 days. Coincidence?!

Well, yeah, actually. It is.

I've noticed how much social media has become part of daily life over the last few months. Practically everything has a Facebook page; and if it doesn't, someone's working on one.
It's a great marketing tool, now that millions of people are able to access real-time specials and updates from their favourite sites and stores. It's even now a great place for news crews to get tips on breaking stories... if there's been an earthquake, it's up there within minutes. Oh right, forgot about that...

Christchurch. The punching bag of the 2010s. Weak to Dugtrios. The new Napier. I suppose I should stop with the jokes now.
Yet again the big C has been hit with a big E... A-R-T-H-Q-U-A-K-E. And even though the size was smaller, the shallower depth certainly made a lasting impression on the still-recovering CBD.
I'm in no position to laugh - my friend was in a parking building at the time and I didn't hear that she was ok for at least a few hours.

In other news, by the time you read this I'll be starting my first proper day of the semester for my second year at university! Yikes that's a mouthful...

Everyone in my hall has pretty much arrived and so we've told them the general spiel about all the campus rules, etc.

I'm a little bit excited. Now that I'm in second year the papers become a bit more specialised, so I'll get to meet the people actually doing Computer Science degrees. And considering the two people I did know have moved to other campuses (I still keep in touch, mind), I'll have the chance to make some new friends (which sounds like something straight from primary school, but how else would you phrase it?).

It's also my first turn to be on call from 5pm-9am, as the Duty RA. I'm not sure what to expect.

But amongst all the paperwork and forms to fill out, the week has gone rather nicely.

Secret Statistics
Still at 3 this week. I have been asked this week whether it would only be answerable if you lived in New Zealand [sic].
The answer I give is... I think it's obscure, but it is not something only a New Zealander could guess. However it would be an advantage to come from a developed country, i.e. not most of Africa. Consider that a clue.

The Last Word
Oh, I am so happy I found a geniunely funny video (to me, anyway) with less than 80,000 hits. It's how you can make one of the worst raps in history (from a lyrical cleanliness point of view) kid-friendly. For comparative purposes you could look up the original song lyrics, but I wouldn't recommend it.

And finally, enjoy the relaxing power to flip coloured pieces of paper with Colorflip.
